Housing New Zealand produced guidelines on culturally specific groups. The spatial requirements served as a starting point for this project. The cultural diversity of tenants for this project made it impossible to regard these guidelines as requirements or guiding principles. After a detailed analysis of the text, we came to the conclusion that the flexibility required for the spaces to encompass the various culturally specific inhabitation, (as is suggested in the guidelines) would ultimately result in a ‘non-space’ - a space with an ultimate flexibility but no specificity. ‘space of impossibility’…
